Viviane Sassen first studied fashion design before turning to photography as a young woman, receiving an MFA in fine art from the Royal Academy in Arnhem. She is renowned and respected equally for her artistic career as for her innovative fashion images and she works across genres. She has her own highly recognisable style often utilising shadows, geometric shapes and the abstraction of bodies which she attributes to the influence of childhood memories of Africa. She has exhibited globally, published many books and has been recognised or awarded by Prix de Rome, ICP & Deutsche Börse. She lives and works in Amsterdam.
