Born in Japan but raised for many years in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Fumiko studied fine art at Central St. Martins before studying photography and fashion styling at The London College of Fashion. She is now best known for her self portrait photography in which she is often accompanied in her images by her identical but wholly fictional twin sister. In 2018 she began a collaboration with Jonathan Anderson on Loewe campaigns and various contributions for the brand’s biannual cultural publication. Her vivacious and appealing images are regularly included in other fashion publications. Since 2005 she has published over ten books of her photography and exhibited extensively worldwide. She now lives in Hitachi, Japan.
